My Work

West Shore Home | Digital Marketing Coordinator (Intern)

Virginia Beach Location Page Content

Oklahoma City Location Page Content

I wrote this content during my internship in anticipation of the opening of the Oklahoma City location and the start of window and door sales at the Virginia Beach location. I wrote these pages to inform customers of the initial or expanded offerings at these locations. Furthermore, I structured these pages to give Oklahoma City and Virginia Beach homeowners more information on what their experience working with West Shore Home would be like.

Backlink Outreach Using Google Alerts

One of the recurring responsibilities of my internship at West Shore Home was performing backlink outreach. Predominantly, I completed this by using Google Alerts. I reviewed each alert and then emailed the digital sales manager or publisher of the website with the backlink and anchor text I wanted to use. It was my goal to obtain at least 8 backlinks each month.

November 2023 Content Calendar

I created this content calendar to assist the social media team. The digital marketing department is striving to increase engagement with followers, so many of the posts I outlined ask for their participation. Furthermore, I identified when the content should be posted, what channel it should be posted on, who the audience is, and which persona should be used when writing the copy for the post.

Reimagining the “About Us” Page

During my internship, I was challenged to revamp the company’s “about us” page. I excitedly approached the challenge by writing copy that emphasized the unique, defining aspects of West Shore Home’s brand. I strived to illustrate the mission, vision, and values of the company and highlight how it works to uphold and further them every day by giving back to the community.

Identifying Common Themes in Reviews

During my internship at West Shore Home, it was my monthly responsibility to review the 4 and 5-star reviews as well as the 1-star reviews on Semrush and identify common themes. I would strive to identify at least three common themes for each category. Once I did so, I would put these themes into bulleted lists and present them to my supervisor, the search engine marketing manager. He would then share them with his supervisor as well as the chief marketing officer of West Shore Home. These themes were primarily used to create new ad concepts and copy.

Google My Business Location Listing

Semrush Location Listing

One of my recurring responsibilities during my internship was creating and updating Google My Business and Semrush listings for all of West Shore Home’s locations. Since search engines use these listings to verify information about businesses and confirm they are legitimate, it is immensely important to ensure these listings are active and up to date. I would audit these listings at least twice a month to ensure they were running efficiently and displaying the correct information. I also provided the operations administrator at each West Shore Home location with instructions on how to complete the video verification process for their corresponding listings.

Outlining Blog Posts

Over the course of my internship, I had the opportunity to outline blog posts for West Shore Home’s website. I was given the creative freedom to create these outlines for preexisting topics as well as topics I brainstormed. The content marketing specialist then used my outlines to bring the blogs to life. Once she wrote each blog, I had the opportunity to edit them and provide her with any feedback I had.

Writing Ad and Landing Page Headlines

I was also given the opportunity to create ad and landing page headlines that highlighted West Shore Home’s tub-to-shower conversions during my internship. I wrote approximately 25 ad headlines and 25 landing page headlines. These were then implemented into a variety of different digital ads for the company.

Creating Outlines for Video Ads

I brainstormed these concepts for West Shore Home video ads that would be played on YouTube or streaming services. Since many of the company’s more traditional TV commercials are directed toward an older audience, I was asked to outline ad concepts that would appeal to younger generations. This was due to the fact that younger individuals are primarily watching content on these platforms.

Conducting Keyword Research

I conducted keyword research for three topics related to West Shore Home’s product and service offerings. These topics were “bath,” “window,” and “door.” By utilizing Semrush and performing SERP analyses, I identified at least 50 keywords for each of the three topics. These keywords were used in copy for West Shore Home’s website, social media posts, landing pages, and ads.

Positive Review

Negative Review

One of my recurring responsibilities during my internship was answering Google and Facebook customer reviews using Sprout Social. Whether I was responding to positive or negative reviews, I gained valuable experience communicating with customers, celebrating their love for the company, answering their questions, and connecting them to resources while employing West Shore Home’s brand voice.

Creating Interstitials Using Optimonk

I utilized Optimonk to create an interstitial, specifically a gamification campaign for West Shore Home’s website. The interstitial requests a website visitor to enter their email and spin the wheel to win a discount on one of West Shore Home’s products or services.

Idea Generation

Throughout my internship, I was given prompts and then asked to develop solutions to those prompts by brainstorming and conducting research. When given these tasks, I was able to think outside of the box and let my creativity drive my research. This led me to develop some interesting yet plausible ideas in the process.
